These vaccines are to prevent types of infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria (known as a pneumococcal disease), such as life-threatening diseases like meningitis (inflammation around the brain), sepsis or bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream), and pneumonia (lung infection). Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria can also cause less severe but more common non-invasive respiratory tract diseases, including otitis media, sinusitis, and bronchitis.
1. What are the Pneumococcal Vaccines available at JTS Medical Centre?
JTS Medical Centre provides the below-mentioned vaccines:
- – Prevnar 13 ® – Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (13 Valent, adsorbed) AED 475
- – Synflorixâ„¢ – Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine, adsorbed AED 300
- – Pneumovax ®23 (Pneumococcal vaccine polyvalent) AED 250
Note: A vaccination administration charge of AED 150 will be charged in addition to the vaccine charges mentioned above.
Your child’s mandatory vaccines recommended by Dubai Health Authority will be covered under your/children’s insurance subjection pre-approval and network coverage.
2. Who can get pneumococcal vaccines?
Prevnar 13 ® – Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (13 Valent, adsorbed) is
recommended for:
- All children younger than two years old
- People 2 years or older with certain medical conditions
Synflorixâ„¢ – Pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine, adsorbed
- Children from 6 weeks up to 5 years of age
Pneumovax ®23 (Pneumococcal vaccine polyvalent) is recommended for
- All adults 65 years or older
- People 2 through 64 years old with certain medical conditions
- Adults 19 through 64 years old who smoke cigarettes
Who should not get pneumococcal vaccines?
Age, Allergy & health conditions are the main factors to consider.
Your specialist (Pediatrician/Pulmonologist/Internist/GP) will examine you before
administering the vaccines.
Tell our physician if you (or your child):
- are allergic to pneumococcal vaccines
- have heart or lung problems
- have a fever
- have immune problems or are receiving radiation treatment for chemotherapy
- are pregnant or breast-feeding
